Gordon Botha is Co-Founder and Chief Data & Intelligence Officer at Ownly, where he leads the company’s data strategy, analytics, and intelligence layers that power underwriting, risk assessment, and decision-making across the platform. He is responsible for translating complex data into decision-grade insight, ensuring that Ownly’s intelligence systems deliver measurable business value at scale. Gordon brings over 15 years of experience spanning fintech, telecom, healthcare, epidemiology, investment management, and bioinformatics. He has held senior leadership roles including Head of Data Science, Lead Data Scientist, and VP of Cloud Infrastructure & Predictive Analytics, and has built and operated large-scale machine-learning and data platforms serving millions of users and billions of data points. Throughout his career, Gordon has specialized in cloud-native architectures, end-to-end machine-learning pipelines, and big-data systems, with deep hands-on experience across AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Azure. His work has ranged from predictive analytics and experimentation frameworks to large-scale data engineering, ML operations, and data governance. In addition to his industry leadership, Gordon has made recognized scientific contributions in computational biology and epidemiology. He is a published author in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Medicine and PLOS Computational Biology, where his research has focused on viral genetics, statistical modeling, and advanced analytical methods supporting HIV vaccine development and evolutionary biology. His work has contributed to internationally cited research and reflects his ability to apply advanced quantitative methods to complex, real-world problems. Known for his pragmatic, business-first approach, Gordon focuses on bridging the gap between advanced analytics and real-world outcomes—ensuring that data and intelligence initiatives drive competitive advantage, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making. In addition to his technical leadership, he has founded and operated businesses across multiple industries, giving him a strong operator’s perspective on execution and scale. Gordon holds degrees in Actuarial Science, Mathematical Statistics (Honours), and a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
